The Furthest West You Can Go In California

A foggy day in Mendocino County is the backdrop for the historic Pt. Arena lighthouse. Point Arena is between Manchester Beach and Gualala, CA, the furthest point west in California and closest place to Hawaii within the lower 48 states. The area is often foggy and windy which adds to the pounding surf.

The first European to “discover” Point Arena was a Spaniard in 1543 who named in Cabo De Fortunas. The San Andreas fault runs into the ocean at Point Arena. There is also a small town of a few miles south of the same name.
