Union Valley Reservoir, one of the three main lakes in the Ice House Recreation area that forms the western edge of the Desolation Wilderness. The Desolation Wilderness is a fee and permit area east of Sacramento, California accessible from US 50. It is a broad expanse of granite, scrub and forest that climbs the Sierra Nevadas up to 9900 feet. In the distance Dicks and Jacks Peak are part of the backbone of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The south end of Lake Tahoe would be on the other side of those peaks.
